What we collect

Account information. Your email address (required) and a display name if you choose to add one. You can sign in with an email address and password or with your Google account. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, a Google service. We never see or keep your password in readable form. For most accounts Firebase holds it; for some older accounts we keep only a scrambled (hashed) version on our servers. When you sign up with an email address, we send a one-time code to that address to confirm it. We also keep an account ID that links your data to your account.

Age check. When you create an account, we ask for your birth month and year. We use them once, on our server, to decide whether you can create an account. We do not store your birth month or year, and we do not log them. If you pass, we keep only a "passed" mark and the time of the check with your account. If you do not pass, we do not create an account and we do not store anything about you. We count blocked attempts only as a weekly total with no information that identifies anyone.

Books you add. When you add a PDF or EPUB file, we store the file, the text we extract from it, and the text we read from scanned pages using optical character recognition (OCR). If you upload a cover image for a book, we store that image with the book. Your books are private to your account. No other Mind86 user can see them.

Study data. Your highlights and notes, reading progress and reading time, quiz answers and scores, flashcard review history and review schedule, and which mind maps you open. We also record simple product events, such as when a book is added or a quiz is started.

Free-recall answers. When you type an answer in a free-recall exercise, it is graded and then discarded. We do not store that text.

Device and sign-in data. Each time you sign in, we record your IP address, user agent, device model, operating system, app version and platform (iOS, Android or web).

Crash reports. If the iPhone, iPad or Android app crashes, it sends a crash report to Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service, so we can find and fix the problem. A crash report contains the error, the app state at the time of the crash, device details such as model, operating system version and app version, and an installation ID that Firebase creates for the app on your device. Crash reports do not include your email address, your account ID, your books or your notes, and we do not link them to your account.

Reminders. If you turn on study reminders, the app schedules them as local notifications on your device at the hour you pick. We do not use a push notification service for reminders. You can turn reminders off from the bell icon in your library.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your precise or approximate location, contacts, photos, payment or financial information, health information, or advertising identifiers. The app contains no advertising and no tracking tools. The only outside service the app uses to see how it performs is Firebase Crashlytics, which receives crash reports as described above.

How we use your information

We do not use your personal information to infer characteristics about you, and we do not make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing.

AI features

Quizzes, summaries, flashcards and mind maps are generated by software from the text of your book. This processing runs on computers that Mind86 operates. Your book text is not sent to an outside AI provider. Generated content can be wrong. Please check important answers against the book itself.

Who helps us process your information

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run Mind86, and only for that purpose:

We also use Google Books and Open Library to find a cover image for a book. We send only the book's title and author, with no information that identifies you.

Translate. If you tap Translate, the text you selected opens in Google Translate, outside Mind86. That service handles the text under its own terms and privacy policy.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of users or others, or as part of a transfer of the Mind86 service to a new operator, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

Where your information is processed

Mind86 is operated from Saudi Arabia. Our servers are hosted by netcup in Germany. The machines that run OCR and the AI features are operated by us in Saudi Arabia. Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. This means your information may be stored and processed outside your province, state or country, including outside Quebec and Canada, and may be accessible to authorities there under local law.

How long we keep it

Security

Data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to our systems is limited to the operator. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

Delete a book. You can delete any book at any time in the app.

Delete your account. In the app, tap the Account icon in your library and choose Delete account. On the web, go to https://mind86.com/account/delete. Deleting your account deletes your account, your books, your study data, your sessions, your sign-in records and your Firebase sign-in.

Access, correction and a copy. Email iahmedhendi@gmail.com to ask for access to your personal information, to correct it, or to get a copy. We may need to confirm that the request comes from the account owner, for example by replying from the email address on the account.

Response time. We respond within 30 days.

Appeal. If you disagree with our answer, reply to it and say that you are appealing. We will review the decision and tell you the result and the reasons.

We will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.

United States: state privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to access it; to correct it; to delete it; to get a copy in a portable format; and to opt out of the sale of personal information, sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising, targeted advertising and certain profiling. We do not sell or share personal information and do not do targeted advertising or such profiling, so there is nothing to opt out of. You may use an authorized agent to make a request; we may ask the agent for proof of authority and ask you to confirm your identity. If we deny your appeal, you may contact the attorney general of your state.

California notice at collection. The categories we collect in the last 12 months are: identifiers (email address, account ID, IP address, crash report installation ID); customer records (display name); internet or other electronic network activity (product events, sign-in records, device information, crash reports); and user content you add (books, notes, highlights, study data). The sources are you and your device. The purposes and retention periods are in the table at the top of this policy. We have not sold or shared personal information. The only information that could count as "sensitive" under California law is your account sign-in, and we use it only to provide and secure your account.

Canada, including Quebec

We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25).

Person in charge of the protection of personal information: Ahmed Hendi, Operator, iahmedhendi@gmail.com.

You may ask to access or correct your personal information and to withdraw consent (for example by deleting your account). If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.

Children

Mind86 is intended for people aged 14 and older. It is not directed to children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. We ask for a birth month and year before an account is created and do not create accounts for people under 14. This includes Quebec, where the law requires a parent's consent before an organization collects personal information from a child under 14; we do not collect from them. If you believe a child under 14 has created an account, email iahmedhendi@gmail.com with the account email address if you know it. We will delete the account and its data.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
