Chapter summary
Gatsby's parties stop, and Nick learns that Gatsby dismissed his servants and hired people recommended by Wolfshiem, so there would be no gossip about Daisy's visits. On a very hot day Nick, Gatsby, Daisy, Tom and Jordan meet at the Buchanan house. Gatsby meets Daisy's daughter, Pammy. The group heads to town, with Tom driving Gatsby's yellow car and Gatsby driving Tom's coupé.
In a suite at the Plaza Hotel, Tom challenges Gatsby about Oxford and accuses him of being a bootlegger who works with Wolfshiem. Gatsby tells Tom that Daisy loves him, not Tom. Daisy says she loves Gatsby but cannot deny she has loved Tom too. Tom sends her home with Gatsby. Tom, Jordan and Nick follow in Tom's coupé and come upon a crowd where Myrtle Wilson has been killed by a yellow car. Later Gatsby tells Nick that Daisy was driving. Nick leaves Gatsby outside the Buchanan house, where he watches over nothing.
